"Super Moon"

7 Adar II 5771
Have you heard about it yet?

Extreme Super (Full) Moon to Cause Chaos?

Coming up later this month (March 19 to be exact) the moon will make its closest approach to Earth (called lunar perigee) in 18 years. A new or full moon at 90% or greater of its closest perigee to Earth has been named a "SuperMoon" by astrologer Richard Nolle. This term has been recently picked up by astronomers. An extreme "SuperMoon" is when the moon is full or new as well as at its 100% greater mean perigee (closest) distance to earth. By this definition, last month's full moon, this month's and next month's will all be extreme "Super Moons".

That's Adar I (Purim Katan), Adar II (Purim) and Nisan (Pesach)!

Some people think it will cause an increase in earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tidal surges. "Experts" say no. Whatever it portends for the physical world, we know from our tradition that, spiritually, the moon represents Yisrael and when it is full, we are at the height of our spiritual power. The connection to Purim is not coincidental. It is said that on Purim, we are at our best because the mitzvot of Purim: giving the substitute for machzit hasheqel, mishloach manot, ma'atonot l'evyonim and sharing the Purim seuda foster achdut among Am Yisrael like no other holiday. And when we are united, no power on earth can succeed against us.

Keep this in mind when you look up at the full moon this Purim and Pesach.
