18 Menachem Av 5772On 6 August 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan and another one on Nagasaki three days later. The US and Japan were at war and had been since Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on 7 December 1941. So far, this is the only instance of nuclear weapons being used in warfare - ever.
A quarter of a million people died as a result.
